On Thursday 2nd December, Neil Carmichael will examine the history of Tory attitudes to imperialism, internationalism and free trade, followed by key turning points in domestic Party politics, to explain how the Party leadership, structure and membership moved towards an increasingly populist, nationalist and Euro-sceptic set of positions. This lecture will look at the contemporary political situation and the challenges for the Conservatives as the realities of Brexit begin to impact on policymaking.
The lecture will be broadcast live online and details on to watch it can be found here on the Newcastle University website.
